When you wake up in the morning how do you feel? Are you excited? Ready to leap out of bed and get enthusiastically stuck into your day?
If the answer to that is "Yes!" then congratulations, you've got it made! In fact, you can probably stop reading this article right now... Because this article is for the 90% plus of people who feel anything BUT excited when they wake up in the morning.
If, on the other hand, you are like the majority of people for whom the ring of the morning alarm triggers a quite different response, then maybe you should keep reading.
For some people waking in the morning triggers little more than a sinking feeling in the chest, a slight feeling of dread perhaps, maybe just the desire to hit that snooze button and have another seven minutes shut eye.
For others the "symptoms" of waking in the morning are a lot worse. A sizeable percentage of people are so stressed by going to work each day that they are literally sick. For them, waking up in the morning involves a quick trip to the bathroom, not for usual morning bladder relief, instead to regurgitate whatever`s left in their digestive tracts from the previous night.
Enough of that. Let`s return to the lives of those fortunate souls who jump out of bed each morning excited to get up and going. What makes them so much different to you? And how can you transition from the life you live to living the life of one of these fortunate few?
Firstly, be honest with yourself. What is it you REALLY want to be doing with your life? While your ultimate fantasy may be spending your time cruising your yacht down the Mediterranean, take a step back from that for a moment. Most of us can't live out our ultimate fantasies until we have an income to support them. And that`s what you need to work on! How can you create a lifestyle for yourself that will allow you to one day live your ultimate dreams, and in the meantime will have you jumping out of bed each morning excited by the work you are doing to achieve your financial freedom?
So, let`s refine my previous question and ask: What is it you REALLY want to be doing each day that you not only love doing, but will also provide the income you need to ultimately live your dreams? Yeah, I know the question is a little more complex, but I think you get the point. If you`re not happy in your job or career you are spending a very large percentage of your life being miserable, and that`s no way to live. Certainly, it`s not easy changing careers, especially if you have a young family to support, with bills and mortgages and other sundry payments.
So, ready to give up? Sadly, most people do. They imagine their lives differently, they imagine themselves in different careers, living vastly different lives, but they don't do anything about it. Usually, it`s too hard, for one reason or other. For some it`s financially challenging, others are constrained by lack of time, or maybe lack of support and understanding from family members and loved ones, while others simply lack confidence in their own abilities. As a result too many live "lives of quiet desperation", waiting for the day when they retire (maybe hoping that they'll win Tattslotto so they can retire early). However, there are the courageous few who step out into the unknown, take a chance and change their lives.
A lot of people, when asked, can come up with several things they'd rather be doing than what they`re currently stuck with, but most of them can also come up with even more reasons why they can't pursue these things.
However, if you want your life to change you must decide that you CAN make the changes you need. Need more qualifications? Start taking a part time course (there are lots of degrees and diplomas that can be studied online), find other people who have done what you want to do and talk to them. Lack family support? Discuss your needs and wants with your significant other and see if you can come to some sort of understanding or agreement. Don't have enough time? Work with the time that you DO have, and make improving your life a priority. When things are high priorities in our lives, we make time for them.
Every journey begins with a single step, so take that step! Once you've made the first step, the second is often much easier, and the further you travel the harder it is to go back.
Don't procrastinate and put your goals to the side any longer. Start right now by imagining how it would feel to wake up in the morning excited! And then picture yourself doing what you REALLY want to be doing each day, instead of what you are. Once you've done that, start working on ways you can begin to make it happen, and then do it!
