It is indeed an important question to be addressed while choosing a career, "Is this career appropriate for me"? Education till high school helps to build up the learning aptitude in a student. Now the student needs to choose a career which is appropriate for him / her...>
In this ever expanding global education system, all careers are good. A peep into some of the day-to-day business activities will show us doctors, engineers, teachers, sales executives, writers, poets, shopkeepers, hoteliers, cab drivers, priests, telemarketers, bankers, janitors, etc. whom we interact with for fulfilling our needs as well as wants. Some of these people may be happy with their remuneration and work at the end of the day. Whereas some of them might be doing their work just for the heck of doing it. This is where choosing an appropriate career comes into play.
In simple words, an appropriate career would be one which rewards an individual with five basic gifts, namely,
Let us discuss the above five factors in brief.
Motivation : It is the mental instinct in an individual which inspires him / her to perform an assigned duty. It is not an appropriate career if one feels forced to do a given work. For example, if one has the talent to play soccer, one can not be motivated to become a doctor but he / she will feel forceful to study medicine.
Involvement : It is the feeling of oneness with the job at hand. The motivated individual is focused and tries to do the job with excellence. When somebody gets a feeling of involvement with work, it is his / her appropriate career.
Remuneration at par with knowledge, skills and experience : We all need money and let us be honest about the fact that nobody does the work for charity. So for achieving an efficient output from the workforce, an individual needs to be paid remuneration at par with his / her knowledge, skills and experience. If a dedicated worker gets an appropriate remuneration, he / she has an appropriate career.
A balance between life at work and at home : According to the World Health Organization, a person can be defined as healthy if he / she is mentally, physically and socially healthy. If the chosen career keeps you too much busy at work, thereby, causing you to neglect the home, then it is not an appropriate career. No matter your salary may be high, but if the work makes you spend sleepless nights, it is time for you to switch over to an appropriate career which would provide a balance between your life at work and at home.
Happiness : It is the essence of one`s existence. We toil throughout the day not only to ascend in our careers but also to achieve happiness every moment and in every action. If your existing work causes boredom, sickness or misery, it is definitely not an appropriate career for you. It is high time for you to choose an appropriate career which would help you to retain your inborn happiness.
It will be worth mentioning that in the contemporary competitive and fast changing global economy with fluctuating market demands, an individual may have to change his / her existing career more than once in his / her lifetime to adopt a more appropriate career in consonance with his/ her health, age and the level of financial necessities. Hence a practical compromise may have to be made without crossing the upper limits of unrealistic expectations.
Once you are ready for a career appropriate for you, you are already in oneness with your appropriate career.
